Birth Doula Support
I provide gentle, continuous care to help you feel safe, calm, and supported during labour and birth. This support begins right from your initial consultation. You can read more about what I offer as a Birth Doula, below.
Being chosen to be your Birth Doula is such a privilege and brings me so much joy. To be invited into someone’s space when they bring their child into the world is something I will never take for granted and it will never not amaze me!
How a Birth Doula can help support you
-
A Birth Doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during your pregnancy, labour, birth, and the early postnatal period. Unlike midwives or medical staff, a doula does not provide clinical care or make medical decisions — instead, we focus entirely on supporting you and helping you feel informed, confident, and cared for throughout your journey. -
My support as your Birth Doula begins during pregnancy with an initial consultation and ongoing support via WhatsApp or phone whenever you need reassurance or guidance. I can also attend antenatal or consultant appointments with you, offering an extra listening ear and helping you explore questions and options.
Together, we have two antenatal sessions to discuss your birth preferences, previous experiences, any worries or birth trauma, and your options around birth and pain relief, helping you feel informed and prepared.
From 38–42 weeks, I go on-call for your birth and am available day or night when labour begins — sometimes a reassuring voice at 2am can make all the difference. I stay with you throughout labour and birth, providing continuous emotional and physical support, and remain for the first few hours after baby arrives.
After birth, we arrange a postnatal visit for a birth debrief and feeding support if needed, helping you process your experience and feel supported as you transition into early parenthood.
-
As a Birth Doula I provide calm, steady support throughout labour, helping you feel safe and supported. This might include providing you with breathing techniques, massage, position suggestions, relaxation tools, encouragement, all with a focus towards helping create a calm environment, and supporting communication with your birth team. Most importantly, I stay by your side and support you emotionally throughout the experience.
-
Absolutely. Doula support is for every type of birth. Whether you’re planning a home birth, hospital birth, induction, epidural, or caesarean, a doula supports your choices and helps you feel informed and confident in your decisions. Birth support is not about achieving one particular type of birth — it’s about helping you feel respected and supported throughout.
-
No — a doula works alongside your midwife and birth partner, not instead of them. Midwives provide clinical care and monitor the health of you and your baby. A doula focuses on emotional and practical support. Doulas can also help birth partners feel more confident and involved by offering guidance and reassurance during labour.
-
Many parents find that having a doula helps them feel calmer, more informed, and better supported throughout pregnancy and birth. Continuous support during labour can help reduce fear and anxiety, improve confidence, and create a more positive birth experience. Having someone focused entirely on your wellbeing can make a real difference to how you feel during and after birth.
-
A Birth Doula does not speak over you or make decisions on your behalf. Instead, we support you to understand your options, ask questions, and communicate confidently with your care team so you can make informed decisions that feel right for you. The goal is for you to feel heard, involved, and in control of your own birth experience.
-
Not at all. Doula support can be valuable whether this is your first baby or your fifth. Some parents seek doula support after a previous difficult or traumatic birth, while others simply want extra reassurance and continuity of care. Every birth is different, and every family deserves support that feels right for them.
Birth Doula Services
Birth Doula Support
Birth Doula support starts from your initial consultation during your pregnancy. I will be on hand via WhatsApp/phone call throughout your pregnancy. If you would like support during your routine appointments or consultant appointments, this can be arranged. It’s often helpful to have an extra listening ear and for an advocate to ask questions at those appointments, that you may not have thought about.
We have 2 antenatal sessions together between 30-34 weeks. These sessions will cover any previous birth trauma, any concerns you have about your pregnancy and your birth plan, in detail. We will then discuss your various options covering pain management and pain relief, where you wish to give birth etc.
I then go ‘on call’ for you from 38 weeks - 42 weeks. I will be ready at any time, day or night, to attend your birth or to chat over the phone should you think your labour has started. Sometimes it’s nice to have a listening ear at 2am when the rest of the world is asleep!
I am then with you for the duration of your labour until a few hours postnatal. After birth, we will keep in touch and arrange a time for me to visit you within a few days of birth, to do a birth debrief session. This ensures you feel you have processed your labour experience. I will also offer feeding support during this session if needed.
